Britball Nation Awards 2018

Welcome to the Britball Nation Awards 2018!

British American Football’s only annual community awards, this year brought to you with the support of EP Sports and Jaguars UK, two epic organisations committed to the growth of the game in the UK and supporting the British American Football community!

So… What are the Britball Nation Awards?

The Britball Nation Awards are an opportunity for we at DC to help raise the profile of individuals and groups of homegrown ballers out there across the UK. The awards feature a mixture of categories aimed at helping celebrate all-things-Britball that have gone on across Great Britain throughout 2018.

We should note: The awards look at the calendar year of 2018, January to December, so submissions and nominations will be relevant to a full breadth of Britball formats played through this period - and yes, this includes both the latter half of the 17/18 Uniball season, and the first half of the current season.

Ok, how do I win one?

We’ve refined our awards a tad this year so save confusion between one category and another.

Community Awards

This will mostly be the smaller awards, often looking at the more amusing or surprising events of the past year - singular events that captured the attention of the Britball Nation.

There probably won’t be prizes beyond perhaps a certificate, but the victors will bask in the glorious kudos of the Britball Community!

This year’s community awards are:

Best Dressed Baller 2018

Field fashion is an ever increasingly important facet of the British game…

“Look good, play good” is the old adage, and there are certainly some ballers across the Britball Nation who’ve taken that motto to heart!

Bicep bands, cowboy collars, tinted visors have all been scientifically proven to exponentially increase your on-field performance after all! (if only in your own mind…)

But who went the furthest to improve their game with accessorising last year? Which ballers went above and beyond to swag themselves out in 2017?

Make sure your nomination inludes details of the player you are nominating (Name, who they played for in 2018) and of course images of their field fashion! Please ensure you have permission to share any images used.

Due to the number of images we’re expecting to receive, we’re not using a form for nomination for this award.

Deadline for nominations is 23:59 GMT on 06/01/2018

Submit your nominations via our Facebook page and at [email protected].

Game of the Year 2018

There’s a crazy amount of football played each year in the Britball Nation, as each of the leagues continues to grow and grow.

For this award, we’re looking for those absolute gems of games, that will be remembered for seasons to come - nestled amongst the Fifty Burger washouts and the soccer scoreline defensive showdowns, were a plethora of games that those that took part in will not soon forget.

Back and forth fights that came down to the wire - but which games from 2018 will be best remembered by the wider Britball community?

Deadline for nominations is 23:59 GMT on 06/01/2018

Overachiever of the Year 2018

Much as the NFL are seeing a host of new teams headed to the playoffs this season, every year in Britball we see teams utterly exceed expectations, and overachieve with a strong competitive record or a deep dive into playoffs…

We’re looking for those teams that utterly exceeded expectations during 2018 - for some this might mean simply being more competitive than the pundits gave them credit for coming into the year, for others this might mean hoisting a National Championship title against all odds!

Either way, we want to hear which teams you believe overachieved in 2018, and why!

Prize Information

These smaller awards don’t currently come with prizes, but we’re looking into a couple of options - and we’re sure we can sort out at least a certificate for the victorious award winners!

Nation Nomination Awards with Jaguars UK

This covers two of the biggies - where we’ll be looking for the BritballNation to step up and nominate individuals who they think have stood out this year.

We’ll supply criteria for each category, and you simply fill in our online form ahead of the deadline, before this is referred to a panel of both DC Staff and well-respected members of the Britball Community to shortlist and select the winners.

This year, both of these awards are being supported by our friends at Jaguars UK, with some incredible opportunities up for grabs for the two individuals that emerge victorious!

Player of the Year with Jaguars UK

For the individual who has balled out above and beyond the call of duty in 2018!

Obviously, the primary determining factor in choosing the recipient of this award will be their play on the field itself – so make sure you include accounts of your chosen nominee’s contributions on game day!

We’re talking about things like:
• Details of where/when they’ve played in 2018
• Gameday stats if they’re available
• Video highlight reels to show off your big plays
• Quotes from teammates & coaches
• Anything else you think relevant to their claim to being THE top player in the Britball Nation through 2018

And if they happen to also be a good Samaritan who rescues puppies from fires in their day off? It won’t hurt to mention their off-field activities too!

We welcome nominees from all BAFA-sanctioned formats of the game: i.e. Cadets, Under 17s, Under 19s, Women’s, University, Adult, Flag.

Deadline for nominations is 23:59 GMT on 06/01/2018

Prize Information

Coach of the Year with Jaguars UK

A good coach knows football, a great coach knows their players.

As such we’re looking for the tutor of the game who knows how to get the best out those they coach, whose passion for the game is so great they ignite it in those around you.

We’re not just looking for success on the field, as winning is only one measure of what makes a truly great mentor in this game – not that a trophy or two in 2018 will hurt your chances!

Coaches are very welcome to nominate themselves, however, we’re expecting most nominations to come from players/colleagues. As such, multiple nominations for the same candidate are likely, and indeed encouraged as they speak to the nominee’s ability to aid the football development of all those around them.

Positional coaches, coordinators, etc, are just as valid nominees as Head Coaches as not all heroes wear headsets!

We welcome nominees from all BAFA-sanctioned formats of the game: i.e. Cadets, Youth, Junior, Women’s, University, Adult, Flag.

Please remember only information/accomplishments from 2018 are considered when looking at nominees.

Video Submission Awards with EP Sports

As the name implies, everyone from across the Nation will have the opportunity to submit footage of plays from any BAFA-approved league fixture that took place through 2018.

There are four core categories here for which we will be accepting game tape submissions:

Play of the Year

We’re looking for THE standout play from 2017, captured on camera.

It can be offence, defence, special teams – just so long as it makes our jaws hit the floor!

We’re talking Beastmode, we’re talking Manning to Plax – the kinda plays you have to watch thrice over and you’re still confused just how it happened.

The only criteria is that it needs to be from a competitive BAFA/IAFA-sanctioned fixture, played in the UK during 2018.

We welcome submissions from all BAFA/IAFA-sanctioned formats of the game: i.e. Cadets, Youth, Junior, Women’s, University, Adult, Flag.

Find a way to get your BIG play across to us and we’ll shortlist the top few, before opening it all up to the public vote!

Catch of the Year

Prove to us that OBJ doesn’t have the monopoly on insane grabs. One-handed, while snapchatting on your way into the end zone? Now we’re talking.

Receiver plucking the pigskin from the air for the game-winning touchdown? Or defensive back snatching the ball outta the sky to shut down the comeback? Hells, if a lineman mysteriously gets his mitts on the ball and makes the most of it – we wanna see it!

Rush of the Year

We wanna see your best Beastmode impersonation as you drag would-be tacklers with you into the end zone… Or perhaps you made a jump-cut so sharp you left the whole opposing team scarred for life!

It doesn’t need to be from a hand off – it could be a kick return, a scoop and score, or even just a really impressive piece of YAC – either way, we want to see the best the Nation has to offer!

BOOM! of the Year

We’re looking for biggest (legal!) hit heard around the Britball Nation!

It can be a tackle, a block, or trucking someone fool enough to stand between you and the goal line – just so long as it makes us wanna shout BOOM!

The only criteria are that it needs to be from a competitive BAFA or IAFA-sanctioned fixture, played in the UK during 2018, and that the hit needs to be made in such a fashion as that it does not violate either the rules or spirit of the game.

How to submit your nominations:

Simply find a way, ANY way, to make sure we at DC watch your big play.

You can send us raw footage via e-mail ([email protected]), We Transfer, Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive (even VHS if you’re the Canterbury Chargers!).

You can send us links to the specific play/s you want us to watch on HUDL, Krossover, YouTube, Vimeo, etc, and just send them in to our Facebook page!

Just make sure you’ve set your permissions so that the video is public, else we might see nothing!

Please make sure to specify:

  • The name of the player/s making the play you want considered for the award (i.e. Pass thrown by James Johnson, caught by John Jameson, big block by Jim Jonskid)
  • Which category/ies you’re submitting your tape into when you complete your submission (i.e. Catch of the Year AND Play of the Year)

We will watch them all, short list those that really stand out to us, and offer the top plays up for public vote!

You can share your plays with us via our Facebook page, via email at [email protected], or via Twitter using the hashtag #BNAs2018.

Please also ensure you have permission to share any footage you wish to submit.

Deadline for nominations is 23:59 GMT on 06/01/2018
